A calm, flowing treatment designed to slow everything down — for stress, poor sleep, or simply an hour where nothing is asked of you.
Not every massage needs to be hard work. Relaxation massage is exactly what it sounds like — a flowing, calming treatment designed to quiet your nervous system rather than dig into problem areas. No assessment of your training load, no working through discomfort. Just an hour where nothing is required of you.
It's the treatment most people mean when they say they need a break. Lighter, slower and more rhythmic than deep tissue or sports work, using long flowing strokes that encourage your body to drop out of permanent alert mode.
The room is quiet, warm and private. There's a brief chat first — anything to avoid, any areas you'd rather weren't touched, whether you'd prefer conversation or silence. Plenty of people say almost nothing for the whole session, and that's completely fine.
Pressure stays light to medium throughout. You'll be covered with towels apart from the area being worked on. Most people find their breathing slows within the first ten minutes; falling asleep is common and nothing to be embarrassed about.
Afterwards you'll usually feel calm and slightly slowed down. It's worth not rushing straight into something demanding — give yourself a little time before getting back to the day.
If you have a specific painful area, deep tissue massage will serve you better. If you're training and want recovery work, sports massage is the one. Relaxation massage is for when the goal is simply to feel better rather than to fix something. If you can't decide, mention it when you book and John will help you choose.
